Aircraft Features
The Boeing Business Jet is the product of a joint venture between Boeing and General Electric to create a high-performance aircraft. Introduced in 2001, the ultra-long-range BBJ2 has 25 percent more interior space and twice the baggage room. Also known as the next-generation 737-800, the Boeing Business Jet 2 is 19.2 feet longer than the successful 737.
The aircraft is powered by two CFM56-7B27 turbofan engines developed by CFM International, a joint venture between General Electric of the United States and Snecma of France. The engines are rated at 27,300 pounds of thrust. The wing tanks have a capacity of 26,025 liters (6,800 gallons) of fuel. Three to seven additional tanks from PATS, Inc., based in Georgetown, Delaware, provide extra fuel to bring the total maximum fuel capacity to 39,531 liters (10,000 gallons).
With a maximum fuel supply and a lower cargo compartment (800 ft³), the range is 5,500 nautical miles.
The BBJ2 is capable of 180-minute twin-engine extended range operations (ETOPS), providing access to faster, more direct and shorter routes such as the Arctic or Himalayan regions.
The BBJ 2 has a range of 12,279 km, which is sufficient for transatlantic flights. At the customer’s request, the aircraft can be equipped with a set of office equipment, as well as high-speed Internet, fax and satellite television.
Boeing developers created a flexible passenger cabin design to quickly rearrange the basic modular elements of the equipment and obtain different options for comfortable accommodation of eight to 50 passengers.
The BBJ2 is based on the 737-800 fuselage design, which provides improved performance in terms of greater range and speed, lower noise and lower emissions than previous members of the Boeing 737 family.
The fuselage is constructed of a fail-safe aluminum structure. The aluminum alloy wings and tail have a fail-safe double-spar design. The wings have blended winglets from Aviation Partners to reduce air turbulence, which increases fuel burn, range and altitude capability.
Weight reduction has been achieved through the use of composite materials, including graphite, Kevlar and carbon fibre for the ailerons, elevator and rudder. The ailerons, aerodynamic brake panels and the leading edges of the wings and flaps consist of aluminium honeycomb sections.
Interior and living room
The 1,004 ft² (over 93 m²) lounge can accommodate up to 78 passengers, in addition to the executive lounge and private suite.
The interior configuration may typically include an executive office, conference rooms, private offices and bedrooms.
In addition to rest or relaxation areas for staff or family, personal environments can be created, such as a living room, dining room, master bedroom and bathroom, or two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The interior designer works with an allowance of 7,030 kg for interior finishes.
Integrated stairs provide autonomy at airports with limited ground service. Cargo compartments are easy to load, with a maximum cargo volume of 34.7 m³.
