Aircraft Features
The wide fuselage, high versatility and low operating costs of the A300-600 make it an ideal regional freighter. In the A300-600F variant, this aircraft carries significant tonnage and volume on the main deck as well as in the spacious lower cargo compartments that can accommodate the full range of existing containers and pallets. Because it is derived from the A300-600 passenger aircraft, this freighter offers the highest service standards for time-sensitive transport.
The Airbus A300-600F was introduced as a modified version of the A300 model, designed specifically for cargo transport. The Airbus A300-600F first flew in December 1993. The model was certified in early April 1994, and the first delivery was made to Federal Express (FedEx) later that month. The design of this freighter is similar to that of the Airbus A300-600, with notable differences such as a large cargo door on the main deck on the port side, a reinforced cabin floor, and a smoke detection system in the main cabin making it stand out.
Production of the Airbus A300-600F began in 1993 and ended in 2007.
The Airbus A300-600F is powered by either two GE CF6-80C2A5 engines or two Pratt and Whitney PW4000 engines. Depending on the engine model, each engine has a takeoff torque of either 56,000 or 61,500 pounds. Thanks to these powerful engines, this freighter is capable of maintaining a climb rate of 3,000 feet per minute and reaching its maximum certified service altitude in just 13 minutes. The Airbus A300-600F requires 7,625 feet of runway to take off at sea level on a standard day. At its maximum landing weight, the A300-600F requires just 5,364 feet of runway to land. To fly to its next destination, the Airbus A300-600F can maintain speeds of 450 knots in a long-range cruise configuration. For faster flight, the A300-600F is capable of maintaining a speed of 515 knots in a high-speed cruise configuration. This freighter has a fuel capacity of 18,000 gallons and, with its efficient engines, is capable of a maximum range of 4,050 nautical miles. The Airbus A300-600F has a maximum cruise altitude of 40,026 feet.
The Airbus A300-600F is equipped with a full digital engine control (FADEC) system. This advanced electronic system not only reduces the workload of the pilots, but also ensures the highest quality in engine performance. The avionics system selected for the Airbus A300-600F uses six identical and interchangeable electronic cathode ray tube (CRT) displays. Four of these displays are configured to show data from the electronic flight instrument system, and two displays act as centralized electronic aircraft monitors. Digital electromechanical instruments with liquid crystal displays (LCD) are also included in this system. The instrumentation systems used in the avionics suite of this freighter include two standard communications radios, two transponders, two VORs, two DMEs, one ADF, two radio altimeters, one collision alert system (TCAS) and one ground proximity warning system (GPWS).
Interior and cabin
The Airbus A300-600F cabin has a length of 133.5 feet, a maximum width of 17.33 feet, and a maximum height of 7.3 feet with a minimum height of 6.6 feet. The cabin of this freighter has approximately 13,822 cubic feet of usable cargo space. In range mode, the Airbus A300-600F payload is structurally certified to carry 112,325 pounds of cargo. In payload mode, the maximum load this freighter can structurally accommodate is 120,705 pounds.
